A number of Sinai intellectuals have issued a statement demanding the release of Mos’ad Abu Fagr
A number of Sinai intellectuals have issued a statement demanding the release of Mos’ad Abu Fagr. The following is the English translation of the statement.
Before being poets, novelists, intellectuals, or social or political activists living on the sands of Sinai, we are citizens of this country whose laws and constitution grant the freedom of expressing and exchanging social and political thoughts. We also rely on the support of celestial laws and human constitutions for our legitimate demand of the release of Mos’ad Abu Fagr.
The minster of internal affairs has issued an order to detain Mos’ad. This order is number 13 in a row ignoring a host of judicial orders and rulings clearing Mos’ad of al alleged charges and ordering his immediate and unconditional release.
The continuous detention of Mos’ad contradicts human, social, and political values recognized not only in Egypt but in any other country in this world. Mos’ad Abu Fagr hasn’t committed a crime. He has just expressed his own opinion which might not be shared by some or many of us. By no means does this justify his detention or denying him the legitimate and human right of freedom.
It is with disregard of any political or ideological alignment that all of us, writers, poets and intellectuals of Sinai affirm that every single work of us including this statement aspires for a better world where higher human, social, and political values prevail. We also take this chance to affirm our belief in continual refusal of normalization of relations with the Zionist enemy as long as Israel keeps ignoring every single human and civil value.
The release of Mos’ad Abu Fagr is a legitimate demand.
Release Mos’ad Abu Fagr.
Freedom for Mos’ad Abu Fgr.
